Code of Conduct
As a competitor in the Thunder Bay Yacht Club Racing Program, I promise:
Violations of this Code of Conduct shall be
reported to the Protest Committee as soon as possible following the
violation. The Protest Committee may call a hearing under Part 5,
Section C, "Gross Misconduct". If the complaint is validated
by the Protest Committee it will either: (1) warn the competitor, or (2)
impose a penalty by excluding the competitor, and when appropriate,
disqualify a boat from a race or the remaining races or all of the races
of a series, or by taking other action within its jurisdiction. A
disqualification under this rule shall not be excluded from the boat's
series score.

TBYC Keelboat Racing Program
TBYC runs an annual racing program
on Lake Superior with 30 to 40 keelboats. Sailboats are rated under
the PHRF system. Wednesday night racing (6:00 pm) is generally outside the
harbour off the Main Gap near Prince Arthur's Landing Marina, with either
Olympic triangle or windward-leeward courses. A committee boat sets
the course and directs the race.
In addition, pursuit races are held
every Monday and Friday evening. These
races are open to all sail boats on a "come and race bases" starting
at 6:00 pm. For details see Friday
/ Monday Race Series.
The 'Crew Bench' under the tree on Pier 2 is for those interested in case any skippers are short of crew. Show up Monday, Wednesday or Friday at 5:30 pm and you will almost always end up on a boat, whether you’re experienced or not.
Several offshore races are scheduled, some of which are overnight. Both single and double handed races are included. The SUNORA, or Superior North-shore Regatta, is an annual 1 week race-cruise through the islands of Lake Superior's rugged coastline between Thunder Bay and Nipigon Bay, with both power and sailboats participating. TBYC also runs a Saturday morning NEW CREW program early in the season for anyone interested in experiencing keelboat racing in the harbour.
Dinghy racing and other dinghy related sailing interests in Thunder Bay are the focus of the Temple Reef Sailing Club, which works closely with TBYC. Races are held Thursday evenings at the end of Pier 1 at the Thunder Bay Marina. All are welcome. 'Sail Thunder Bay', a dinghy learn-to-sail program for youth and adults, is operated throughout the summer from Pier 2. For more information on dinghy sailing and instructional programs click the dinghy sailing tab on our home page.
Fees are NOT required for Monday / Friday Race Series
